Levi’s ICD+ Jacket with built-in cellphone and MP3 player (2000-2002)

“A collaboration between Philips and Levi’s, the ICD+ Jacket launched in summer 2000, and is considered to be the first commercial wearable electronics garment. The jacket had strategic pockets for a Philips Xenium mobile phone, Rush MP3 player and earphones along with purpose built channels for the wiring through the garment. A central control module connected all the devices to allow the wearer to switch between them and control their separate functions.”

Philips had been developing wearable clothing concepts for years, as seen in books like New Nomads, this jacket was the culmination of that research. This partnership was supposed to generate a full line of clothing with various electronic functionality (ICD being short for Industrial Clothing Division), but like most Y2K things it vanished a few years later.

"I am like a tree in the forest. Birds come to the tree, they sit on its branches and eat its fruit. To the birds the fruit may be sweet or sour or whatever. But the tree doesn’t know anything about it. The birds say sweet and they say sour, but from the tree’s point of view, this is just the chattering of birds." — Ajahn Chah (via originalgiantcontent)

"The main problem in any democracy is that crowd-pleasers are generally brainless swine who can go out on a stage & whup up their supporters into an orgiastic frenzy - then go back to the office & sell every one of the poor bastards down the tube for a nickel apiece." — Hunter S.
